Depends on your body goals. Standard tops ($0.4mm$) provide all-over compression. If you want to enhance your physique, look for contoured or panelled designs that use reinforced seams to define the chest and shoulders. For a more relaxed "streetwear" look, choose a slightly larger size or a $0.6mm$ thickness for less stretch.
Lubricate the shoulders and "roll" it on. The shoulders are the widest part and the most common tear point. Apply plenty of silicone dressing aid to your skin. Put your arms through first, then gently "roll" the material over your head and down your torso. Never pull hard from the bottom hem, as this puts extreme tension on the armpit seams.
Use 100% silicone lube and take breaks. Latex is non-breathable, and sweat will pool at the lower hem or waistband. Using silicone lubricant as a barrier helps prevent "heat rash." For long events, occasionally "vent" the shirt by pulling the neckline open to allow fresh air in and let accumulated sweat escape.
Friction and skin oils. The waist area experiences constant friction from movement and contact with pants/belts. Additionally, skin oils can dull the surface. To restore the look, wash the vest after every use to remove oils, and re-apply a silicone-based shiner using a lint-free cloth for an even, mirror-like finish.
